Merrell University of Beauty Arts and Science is a fully accredited, post-secondary school providing education in cosmetology and esthetics. The school is dedicated to “professional excellence,” enabling graduates to be highly competitive in the job market. Instructors are licensed by the Missouri State Board of Cosmetology and continuously keep abreast with the new trends and products through educational seminars and workshops. Merrell University offers continuous enrollment with classes starting monthly. Classes are held Wednesday through Saturday from 8:30 a.m. – 4:30 p.m.
Cosmetology Course: Merrell University uses Pivot Point’s education program and teaching methods (www.pivot-point.com), which is recognized by industry leaders around the world. The course is a full-time program for a minimum of 1,500 clock hours and is taught over a period of approximately 12 months. Students will study a wide-variety of topics including: salon business, anatomy, bacteriology, physiology of the hair and scalp, nail anatomy, chemistry, permanent waving, braiding, relaxers, hair sculpting, artistry of hair styling, hair coloring, facialing, make-up application, and professional image.
Esthetics Course: As a qualified CIDESCO international school (www.cidesco.com), Merrell University is one of only six schools in the United States that is able to offer students the world’s most prestigious qualification in the field of esthetics and beauty therapy. Since 1957, the CIDESCO qualifications has set the standards that have been replicated over the five continents of the globe and is represented in over 33 countries. The course is a full-time program for a minimum of 1,200 clock hours and is taught over a period of approximately 10 months. Students will study a wide-variety of topics including: skincare, spa business and management, massage techniques, make-up applications, body treatments, professional development, microdermabrasion, chemistry, hair removal, reflexology, and anatomy.
Upon completion of the course, the student will have acquired the technical abilities and academic theories to pass the Missouri State Board of Cosmetology examination in order to gain state licensure and obtain an entry-level position. After obtaining licensure, Merrell University offers assistance with job placement.

How many winners are there? There will be two grand prize winners. One grand prize winner will receive a full ride scholarship for Cosmetology. The second grand prize winner will receive a full ride scholarship for Esthetics. The full ride scholarships include tuition and books.

Terms and Conditions: Applicants must be 17 years or older and have a valid high school diploma or G.E.D. Scholarship applies to new, prospective students only. Scholarship winners must enroll during the 2014 school year. An interview will be required before the scholarship can be awarded to ensure applicant eligibility. Applicants must complete a 2013-14 FAFSA (visit: www.fafsa.ed.gov for more information). The scholarship will be reduced by pell grant (if applicable) and applied towards tuition balance upon graduation. Merrell University and Zimmer Radio Group will determine the winner(s).
